Shades Valley girls basketball advance to title game for the first time

Shades Valley has adopted a "defense wins championships" mentality.

The Mounties forced 23 Jeff Davis turnovers in their 55-34 semifinal win over the Vols. Shades Valley will play Sparkman for the girls 6A title Friday afternoon at 3.

It will be Shades Valley's first appearance in the championship game. The only other time the program reached the Final 48 was 1998.

Morgan William scored a game-high 18 points and had four of the teams 14 steals. Alyese Givens scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Shades Valley, who is the state's No. 3 ranked team in girls Class 6A, will play top ranked Sparkman in the Championship after the Senators beat Blount, 56-45.
