Shelby Humane Society celebrates Halloween with pet costume contest

The pets of the Shelby Humane Society are getting into the Halloween spirit by competing in a costume contest on Saturday.

Cats, dogs and maybe a reptile or two will don their best costumes in the 2nd Annual Pet Costume Contest hosted by the Shelby Humane Society at the Riverchase Galleria.{} Registration to enter begins at 1 p.m. and the contest will start at 2:30 p.m. on the lower level under Belk's main entrance.{}

Entry for the competition is an in-kind donation to the homeless pets of Shelby Humane Society, including cat litter, canned pet food, dry cat and kitten food.

"This event always brings a howling crowd. Last year, we even had a turtle enter as a dinosaur. It is a great way to get your pet out and about and support the Shelby Humane Society," states Sara Shirley, Executive Director of Shelby Humane Society.

A panel of four celebrity judges, including ABC 33/40's Honora Gathings, will award the top three pet costumes, Best Pet and Owner and a Mr. or Miss Congeniality.{}

Co-anchor for Good Morning Alabama, Ebony Hall,{} will emcee the event.
