      Sheriff shot in South Alabama

A South Alabama sheriff is recovering after being shot in the arm during a standoff Friday.

The Escambia County Sheriff's Office says Sheriff Grover Smith had surgery and has since been released from the hospital.

The shooting happened at the home of 62-year old James Arrington in Flomaton. Smith was trying to serve a mental commitment pickup order. Arrington shot and killed himself after shooting the sheriff.
