The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office will participate in the National Take Back Initiative. According to the Partnership for a Drug Free America, every day, approximately 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet. In an effort to address the problem, the Drug Enforcement Agency, along with state and local law enforcement agencies across the United States, hold National Prescription Drug Take Back Day events. This allows people to dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.
The Sheriff's Office will be accepting unwanted prescription medications at the Center Point Substation this Saturday from 10:00 am until 2:00 PM. The Centerpoint Sheriff's Substation is located at 2651 Center Point Parkway.
