Shooting in Calhoun County leaves 1 man dead, woman injured

Calhoun County investigators said Thursday it appears the man who died Wednesday afternoon in Hobson City shot himself.

Deputies responded to a call about shots fired around 1:30 p.m. at a house in Hobson City, near the intersection of Council Avenue and Washington Street.

Chief deputy Matthew Wade said{}a man died from a single gunshot and paramedics took a woman to{}a local{}hospital to treat two gunshot wounds.{} Wade said she is recovering and is able to walk.

The man's father identified him as Jonathan Evans.

Wade said according to the preliminary phase of the investigation, it appears Evans shot his girlfriend twice before shooting himself, but investigators are waiting on autopsy results{}to confirm the events.
