Shooting victim dies after altercation with cab driver

One person has died after being shot following an altercation with a cab driver Saturday morning, the Birmingham Police Department reports.

The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. at 2nd Street Southwest and Cotton Avenue, where West Precinct officers found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Birmingham Police discovered that the victim had been involved in an altercation with a cab driver before being shot, but it is unclear at this time if the driver was the shooter.

East Precinct officers located the taxi driver shortly after the shooting and took him into custody.

Police are conducting a homicide investigation, but no charges have been filed.
