Singer Patti Page dies at 85

Singer Patti Page passed away New Year's Day at her California home. She was 85 years old. Page's musical career began shortly after World War II.

Her first hit also became her most memorable one - Tennessee Waltz. The recording sold ten million copies. In fact, the only recording to outsell it was Bing Crosby's White Christmas. There were other hits including, How Much is that Doggie in the Window, Old Cape Cod, Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte, and Allegheny Moon.

Page was the first pop singer to use a process called overdubbing - she provided her own backup singer. In addition to her recordings, she also appeared in movies and was the first singer to have a show on all three major television networks.

Next month, Patti Page was to be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammy's.
