Small business Saturday is bringing out the shoppers

It comes after Black Friday and it's now being dubbed "Brown Thursday."Small Business Saturday, created four years ago by American Express to remind shoppers to keep spend money locally, has allowed businesses across Birmingham to cash in on holiday sales.

Chris Collins, the owner of Homewood Antiques, says the sales holiday is an opportunity for small businesses like hers to be recognized.

"We work really hard and there's a place for us to," Collins said. "If everybody works together there's a place for everybody. The big dollar stores and the little mom and pop places like us."

The next shopping holiday, Cyber Monday, begins next week and consumers will be offered extreme discounts on the Internet.{}
