Small businesses are the economic engine of the American economy. Some cities have an easier job than others of getting small businesses to locate where they need to be.
The city of Gadsden is an example of a community trying to grow its small businesses but with a unique challenge.
Here's the deal. Downtown Gadsden is at ninety percent occupancy..that's great. But less than half of the occupied spaces is filled with retailers. To further complicate the formula, one of the longest-running, most-loved retailers Gadsden Variety is closing.
