The son of former Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ted Sexton is one of 18 deputies indicted Monday in Los Angeles County, California. {}The arrests followed an investigation of alleged abuse and corruption at the county's Men's Central Jail.

James Sexton is accused of trying to silence an informant who could have testified against other deputies. {}Seven Sheriff's department workers are believed to have been part of a conspiracy to block investigations of how inmates are treated at county jails.

The alleged actions happened when deputies found out that an inmate was working with the FBI on an investigation of possible corruption in the Los Angeles Sheriff's office. {}A probe shows the informant was released, then re-booked under a different name. {}The FBI probe shows deputies also tried to pressure an agent into giving them information about the investigation.
