Sound of music takes on new meaning at Carver High School

The sound of music is taking on a new meaning at Carver High School.

Thursday morning, autistic students part of a newly-formed orchestra performed for school staff, students, family and friends.

The orchestra was formed this year after the school's special education teacher searched for a new elective.

"The music makes them come out of their shell," said special education teacher Wanda Shorter. "I've seen them just blossom."

The students{}performed two selections, "The Switch" and The Adams Family," and also{}performed in a drum circle.

The orchestra is led by orchestra teacher Heather Rittscher, who is planning for another performance next year.
