A special operation by the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and Drug Task Force netted eight arrests in the Southern and Northern parts of the county following several searches and traffic stops, Sheriff Jimmy Harris reports.

The operation is part of the county's attempt to locate and apprehend suspects responsible for thefts, burglaries and drug activity in the communities.

One traffic stop that turned into a pursuit led to the arrests of Don Lyn Hemley, 28, of Fyffe, and Meri Lea Hearn, 26, of Geraldine. Lemley was charged with Possession of Controlled substance, Possession of Marijuana II, possession of drug paraphernalia and attempting to elude. Hearn was charged with possession of Marijuana II and possession of Drug paraphernalia.

Johnnie Mac Uptain, 60, of Albertville, was arrested during a traffic stop after Uptain threw a bag containing a drug pipe and paraphernalia from his vehicle. Drug agents recovered the bag and he was charged with possession of both.

Damon Allen Clements, 33, of Dawson, was arrested for a failure to comply warrant as well as resisting arrest after he ran from deputies.

Jeffery Lee Gibbs, 34, of Dawson, was arrested on a warrant for failure to comply on receiving a controlled substance.

Sandy Buford Tims, 52, was arrested on county road 351 on charges of marijuana II and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Drug agents and deputies went to a residence on county road 568 to serve a felony warrant. The suspect wanted was not at the location, but officers arrested Mark Anton Desinger, 47, of Albertville, and charged him with possession of controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Desinger had several pieces of equipment used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine as well as some finished product.

Task force agents completed the operation at 11:00 p.m. with a consent search at a residence on county road 762 in the Ider community. Agents arrested Jerry Lee "Pete" West, 54, of Ider. He was charged with unlawful manufacturing of controlled substance, unlawful possession of controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia before being transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center were he remains.

"All these arrests are a direct result of an operation we have been working on to help us gain more Intel on the people in our community who are stealing and trafficking in stolen merchandise for drugs." Sheriff Harris said. "Thursday's arrests follow the arrest of three individuals Wednesday on similar charges involving stolen property. We will continue to put pressure on these areas until we have these people in jail. This is a continuing problem, but we are getting information daily which helps us combat this problem. Our citizens are our best resource in this effort."
