Spencer Turnbull signs professional contract with Detroit Tigers

Former Alabama pitcher Spencer Turnbull is sticking with professional baseball.Turnbull signed a professional contract with the Detroit Tigers, who picked him in the second round of last week's MLB Amateur Draft. He will receive a $900,600 signing bonus, according to to's Jim Callis.The right-handed pitcher was 5-7 with a 2.22 earned run average in 2013. Turnbull will begin his pro career at the Tigers' single-A affiliate in Norwich, Connecticut.Tide outfielder Ben Moore and pitcher Justin Kamplain have yet to sign their contracts. Moore, an eight-round selection by the Boston Red Sox, and Kamplain, an 18th-round selection by the New York Yankees, are both expected to bypass their final season of college baseball.
