      Tobacco agreement ensures Alabama funding

      A multi-state agreement with major tobacco companies will continue to provide funding for public health programs. Alabama Attorney General, Luther Strange made the announcement Tuesday. Over the years, Alabama has received nearly $1 billion for health care programs. The payments is part of a 1998 anti-smoking agreement, which prevented tobacco companies from being sued to cover health care costs for smokers.
