Students for change

Some young people are making this a summer of service. Habitat for Humanity of greater Birmingham kicked off its Students for Change project Tuesday morning. About a dozen of volunteers painted a house in Midfield. Their goal is to repair existing homes, one neighborhood at a time.

"I think it's a great opportunity to come out because, not only do you get to hang out with your friends and help others, but it is fun and you get to be outside, it's great," volunteer Bayley Smith says.

The Students for Change home revitalization runs through Saturday, July 21. Organizers need at least 25 volunteers each day. In the coming days, they will also paint homes in Montevallo and build handicap ramps in Walker County.
