Students at Shades Valley High School had a first-hand experience Friday of the dangers texting while driving can cause.
Through the use of a virtual texting and driving simulator, students were seated in a car connected to sensors. The driver navigated a virtual road course while texting, and the results were surprising.
"The law I sponsored outlawing texting while driving is important, but it's also important to raise awareness of the dangers of texting while driving with events like this," said Rep. Jim McClendon, who authored Alabama's texting while driving law.
Students signed a pledge to not text and drive.
