Senior prank sends many students home early from Oak Mountain High

Parents waiting in line to pick up their students at Oak Mountain High School Thursday. (

Parents are lined up at this hour at Shelby County's Oak Mountain High School trying to pick up their children. The school is giving students the option to leave early or continue class in others areas of the school.

Parents are telling us the prank involves upside down solo cups filled with baby oil as well as detergent in the hallways.

We are awaiting a statement from the Shelby county board of education and will provide more details.

Update with statement from Shelby Co. Schools spokesperson:

"Oak Mountain High School was vandalized sometime during the night.{} A slippery/soapy substance was put on the hallway floors.{} Because classrooms were not accessible, students have been temporarily housed in the Commons Area, Performing Arts Center and cafeteria.{}

"ServPro was called in to help clean up the hallways and two wings of classrooms are about to be reopened.{} Students are safe and are being allowed to study for final exams.{} Students who wish to leave have been allowed to check out with parental permission.{}

"An investigation into this matter is currently ongoing.{} The persons responsible have not been identified at this point."
