      Students share Christmas joy through Toys for Tots

      Many children are marking down the days until Christmas. As with{}previous years, help is needed fulfilling those wish lists. That's where the Marines and Toys for Tots come in.

      The goal is once again 80 thousand toys. But several thousand are needed by next week.

      Thursday, students from one Hoover school showed{}ABC 33/40 the joy the gifts will bring.

      "That is one cool toy," said{}Magdelyn Hardy,{}vice president of{}the Student Government Association at Green Valley{}Elementary School.

      "Look- it's My Little Pony," said Hannah Cochrane, SGA president as they loaded a Toys for Tots box.{}

      Their{}delight was hard to ignore, and their joy of{}gift{}giving was{}infectious

      "When{}I wake up on Christmas morning, I'm excited to see presents, give presents but they don't get that," said Magdelyn.

      The girls{}were{}boxing up toys donated by fellow Green Valley Elementary School students to ensure other children wake to presents on Christmas morning.

      "It's amazing how many people have brought in toys already," said Hannah.

      "It's getting really full.{}I can't wait for the kids to get these," said Magdelyn.

      But thousands of toys{}still need to be collected and boxes around town need to be filled. Just one toy will make a difference.

      "It's simple. It's ten dollars. It's 15 dollars. It's whatever you can give," said Toys for Tots organizer Amanda Moore. "When you are doing your shopping, just think about what you'd like as a kid on Christmas under the Christmas tree. It will make the perfect gift for a child."

      The girls couldn't agree more.

      "I'm{}so happy for all the kids that are going to get these on Christmas," said Magdelyn.

      "It{}means a lot to them, a whole lot, so it makes me think, 'wow, they're to think this is the best thing that's happened to me,'" said Hannah.

      We the last large toy crammed into the box, the girls exchanged a high five and were done.

      ABC 33/40 is a sponsor of Toys for Tots.
