Suit aims to block payments to Alabama Education Association

A Hoover woman filed a lawsuit {}to stop state education officials from funding the Alabama Education Association with payroll deductions from public school employees. {}The suit was filed Wednesday in Shelby County Circuit Court. {}The woman says the AEA has not guaranteed that dues being paid by public school employees will be exempt from funding the AEA's political action committee, Alabama Voices for Teachers for Education.Defendants named in the suit include state, city and county education officials and school boards. The suit asks the court to block the group of defendants from authorizing any further payments to the Alabama Education Association, or any other group that hasn't specified that a portion of employees' dues won't be used to fund political activity.
