In the summer you just never know when you might be hit with a deluge.
Today sitting in the studio had an added dimension. We could hear the lightning over head.
Looking at the radar confirmed my suspicions.... We were having a heavy summer storm.
The rain came down fast and furious .... with lightning strikes almost constant for the over the mountain communities....
a staples manager was hit by lightning in the parking lot in hoover.... along montgomery highway.
Lightning is the suspected cause of this house fire in Hoover... on Southlake Parkway
while firefighters were battling this blaze.
And lightning is also the suspected cause of another fire at Southview Terrace also in Hoover.
Drivers along Highway 280 were battling this high water... during rush hour.
There was a big mess near Superior Grill and Highway 280.
Even though some got close to home in Inverness Landing... were met with high water.
And here this drive along Highway 119... was over flowing with water.
In fact for travelers along Cahaba Valley Road... travel was treacherous.
Things returned to normal... here along Dolly Ridge Road... But earlier drivers in Cahaba Heights and Vestavia Hills also had to battle rising water.... barricades and cones blocked the closed road at Dolly Ridge Road.
@Andy Grant is a Cahaba Heights resident. "Looked out the window and cars are underwater had to move ours across the street. Now we have a crawl space full of water."
And in Hueytown... the weather added to the frustration of this light out.... Alabama Power crews responded... and worked to restore lines down in that area.
And this afternoon... in many areas... the weather washed out any hopes of a game.
