Surveillance video leads to arrest of burglary suspect in Birmingham
A Birmingham man is behind bars Thursday thanks to surveillance video that captured the suspect moments after he burglarized a home.
Tadarius Johnson, 22, is accused of stealing a television from a home in the 500 block of 22nd Avenue South around 9 a.m. on September 4. According to Birmingham police, the victim of the burglary provided investigators surveillance video of the crime and images of the suspect in his vehicle leaving the scene.
Police released the footage to the media and shortly after it was aired on a local television station, a citizen called authorities with information regarding the suspect's identity.
Investigators were able to verify the tip and an arrest warrant was issued for Johnson, who was taken into custody Wednesday around 8:30 p.m. He is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
