Minister Bernadine Layton, who was well-known as one of the survivors of the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, died Jan. 10 and a "Homegoing" service for her was held at noon Saturday.
Those who knew her say she had a forgiving spirit, even forgiving those responsible for the bombing that killed four young girls.
Layton dedicated her time as the spokesperson for the Re-digging of the Wells Ministries to introduce people to religion in a non-denominational format.
Family and friends attended her service at Living Church Ministries on Omega Street in Birmingham.
