A funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, for Bernadine Layton, a Birmingham-area minister and survivor of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in 1963.

Minister Bernadine Layton, who was well-known as one of the survivors of the 1963 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, died Jan. 10 and a "Homegoing" service for her was held at noon Saturday.

Those who knew her say she had a forgiving spirit, even forgiving those responsible for the bombing that killed four young girls.
