Suspect arrested for Railroad Park murder bonds out of jail
Justin Jones, the 17-year-old charged with murder in connection to the Railroad Park shooting in March, has bonded out of jail less than 24 hours after being arrested.
Jones was arrested Tuesday evening at his place of employment by a Birmingham police crime reduction team before eventually being transported to the Jefferson County Jail where he was being held on a $200,000 bond for the shooting death of 15-year-old Jarmaine Walton. Walton was shot at Railroad Park on Sunday, March 17 and died from his wounds one day later.
Just hours before being released from jail just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jones made his first appearance in a Jefferson County courtroom.
Birmingham Police Chief A.C. Roper reported the arrest of Jones at a news conference Tuesday, and he commended his detectives for their diligence and persistence in the 44-day search for Walton's alleged killer.
The victim's family released a statement a short time later expressing thanks to police while describing bittersweet emotions knowing that the apprehension of Jones could "never bring Jarmaine back."
