Suspect arrested in connection with fatal shooting at west Birmingham convenience store (Update)

Birmingham police have made an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting at a west Birmingham convenience store Tuesday afternoon.

Robert Fitts, 20, of Birmingham, has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of 19-year-old Edwin Wayne. Wayne was gunned down outside Justin's Convenience Store located at 224 12th Street West shortly before 5 p.m.

Police say a verbal altercation between the victim and another black male led to the shooting, which marked Birmingham's 10th homicide in nine days.

Fitts is being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
