Suspect in double homicide at Hoover night club identified

Phillip Terral Player, 20, faces one count of Capital Murder and one count of Attempted Murder after allegedly killing two people inside a Hoover night club.

The murder suspect in custody for the shooting deaths of two people Friday night in Hoover has been identified.

Phillip Terral Player, 20, is currently being held in Hoover Jail after being arrested Saturday morning for his involvement in a double homicide at Martinis II night club.

Player is charged with one count of Capital Murder and one count of Attempted Murder and is being held on a $360,000 bond for the murders of 19-year-old Monterio Alonzo Peebles-Kellogg and 20-year-old Lakenya Chaniese Moton inside a night club. A third person was wounded in the shooting, hence the Attempted Murder charge.

Regarding the Capital Murder charge, Hoover Police Capt. Jim Coker cited a portion of Section 13A-5-40 of Alabama Code for Capital Offenses, which states the following:

"(10) Murder wherein two or more persons are murdered by the defendant by one act or pursuant to one scheme or course of conduct."

Sentencing guidelines for capital offenses in Alabama states that a defendant found guilty may receive a sentence of death or life imprisonment without parole.

Before Friday night's murders, Hoover Police had not investigated a homicide in the city in over two years.
