Sylacauga's Thomas scores 19 in McDonald's All-American game

Shakayla Thomas scored a game-high 19 points but it wasn't enough to lead the East to a win in the McDonald's All-American girls basketball game.

The West beat the East 80-78 at the United Center in Chicago on Wednesday night.

Thomas, who will play at Florida State next year, was 9-of-15 from the field and the only player on the East to hit at least half of her shots. The East shot 32 percent as a team.

The West's Brianna Turner hit a jumper to break a 78-78 tie with 53 seconds to left. She was named the game's MVP with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
