Helena Middle School students and faculty honored veterans Thursday morning. But this time, they honored and surprised a veteran of their own. Teacher Glenn Floyd teared up with emotion as his peers and students honored him for more than 30 years in education and his service in the U.S. Army.
"I'm overwhelmed. I had no idea this was going on," Floyd said.
Along with the surprise came gifts, school administrators presented Floyd with a state proclamation in his honor, an American flag raised over the U.S. capitol building and an picture signed by University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban. Floyd plans to retire from teaching in the spring. He recently retired from the National Guard.
