Teenager shot at basketball court

Birmingham police are investigating a shooting at 1036 2nd Court West in Birmingham.

Police are saying this is a random act of violence.{}

The victim is in his late teens.{} He was shot in the head.{} The victim was playing basketball at the court next to the Birmingham Professional Firefighter Association building near Rickwood Field.{}{}Allegedly the suspect walked up and fired one shot.{}

Suspect is not in custody.{} Police are interviewing witnesses. {}Sgt. Q. Hamilton told ABC 33/40, thanks to Chief A.C. Roper's crime initiative, there were plenty of officers nearby when the shooting happened.

"Of course it was somewhat chaotic," Sgt. Q. Hamilton, Birmingham Police said. "But thanks to the chief's initiative of the additional units, they were here on the scene just as quick as some of the patrol units were, and hopefully able to gather information and hopefully that will help solve this crime pretty quick."

The victim was taken to UAB hospital where he is listed{}in stable condition.{}
