Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus arrives in Birmingham (photos)
The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus arrived in style to downtown Birmingham on Wednesday one day ahead of its first scheduled performance at the BJCC.
The Greatest Show on Earth's largest act, literally, the elephants, paraded down Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North en route to the civic center. The leader of the herd donned a giant-sized Houndstooth fedora while its mahout waved Crimson Tide flags in honor of the University of Alabama's recent BCS National Championship in football.
Spectators, young and old, lined the street to watch the parade, and were able to witness the well-trained mammals pose for cameras in front of the Southeastern Conference office building.
The circus will put on seven shows in four days with the first show on tap for Thursday night at 7 p.m. and the last show kicking off at 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 27. Tickets range in price from $14 all the way up to $94 for the "Celebrity Pass" ticket, which provides guest premium seating, a collectible lanyard and the opportunity to be a part of the action in the ring.
