Fairfield Police arrest 3 men for stealing truck, shooting at officers


Fairfield Police has released the identities of the three suspects arrested Friday morning after they allegedly stole a truck and fired several shots at officers during a pursuit.

Chief Leon Davis said that a man reported his truck stolen from a CITGO gas station at 900 Millstead Road at around 12:30 a.m. Officers located the stolen vehicle at 4:30 a.m. and additional assistance was requested before a stop was attempted.

Following the arrival of backup officers, police attempted to make a stop on the truck, but the suspects quickly took off, beginning a chase.

The pursuit ended after an unmarked police cruiser crashed into the stolen vehicle at 3839 Richard Scrushy Parkway and three men were taken into custody. Davis said four shots were fired at officers during the chase, but none of the officers involved returned fire. No one was injured during the incident.

Officers recovered the owner of the stolen truck's gun and two additional guns inside the vehicle.

Dontrell Rooks, 18, Tamarius Smith, 18, Tracy Jones, 21, all of Birmingham, were charged with attempted murder and receiving stolen property. The three men are currently awaiting transfer to the Jefferson County Jail where they will each be held on bonds totaling $90,000.

The suspects were apprehended at 3639 Richard M Scrushy Parkway.

No one was injured during the shooting.
