Tide outfielder Ben Moore signs with Boston Red Sox

TUSCALOOSA - AL — Alabama outfielder Ben Moore is going from college to the pros after signing with the Boston Red Sox.The former Cullman Bearcat had year of eligibility remaining but the Red Sox offered him a signing bonus worth $152,700.Moore will join Boston's Gulf Coast League (rookie) team in Fort Myers, Fla."I just felt like it's the right thing to do if the right opportunity came," Moore told ABC 3340 after he was drafted by Boston in the fifth round of MLB's First Year Player Draft. "It presented itself and I feel at piece with it. I'm ready to go play and I'm just so happy the Red Sox believed in me and took a chance on me."The Red Sox GCL team will begin it's season later this week. Moore is expected to play catcher in the pros.He hit .305 last season and tied for the Alabama team lead with 39 RBI on his way to being named second-team All-SEC.
