Tuscaloosa police: 54-year-old man commits suicide after shooting his wife

Tuscaloosa Police say 54-year-old James Murdock shot his wife then called 911 before apparently turning the gun on himself Monday night.

According to a news release from the Tuscaloosa Police Department, officers responded to a home in the 4900 block of Woodland Forrest Drive at approximately 10 p.m. after Murdock reported to police that he has shot his wife, Elaine.

Upon arriving, officers found the female victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to her neck. She was transported to DCH Hospital for treatment. Information regarding her condition Tuesday was not immediately made available.

Murdock was found on the second level of the home, deceased from a single gunshot wound. Investigators believe he fatally shot himself after attempting to murder his wife.

An investigation into the attempted murder-suicide remains ongoing.
