Train rolls into Irondale's Grants Mill Station

An economic development project in Irondale is{}moving full steam ahead. Wednesday afternoon, a train, which will soon be converted to a restaurant, rolled into Grants Mill Station.

Besides a few businesses on the property, the shopping center has been relatively empty for the past several years, but the area will soon be transformed into what city leaders call a tourist destination.

Mark Gold, a developer who previously developed Crestwood Festival Center, purchased the property, and{}more than 90 percent of the shopping center will be occupied with restaurants, shops and more.

The City of Irondale provided funds toward construction of a dog park, and the police department and water works system will both occupy spaces.

Gold plans to put a zip line and ropes course on the property, and construction should be complete in the next few months.
