Tulane safety Devon Walker suffers broken neck, collapsed lung in helmet-to-helmet hit

Tulane safety Devon Walker is listed in stable condition today after colliding with his teammate Julius Warmsley during a tackle against Tulsa.

A Tulane trainer has confirmed that Walker suffered a broken neck and a collapsed lung during the collision.

The impact occurred when Green Wave defensive tackle, Warmsley, led with his helmet into a tackle, spearing his teammate's helmet in the process.{} Walker's body immediately went limp, and training staffs from both teams rushed to his aide.

According to a Fox Sports report, Walker stopped breathing and emergency personnel performed on-field CPR, allowing him to breathe again before he was taken away by ambulance.{} They also performed a tracheotomy on the senior defensive back.

A stadium-wide prayer was led by a person on the field as coaches and players were in tears.

Walker is currently in the emergency and trauma center at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa.
