Tuscaloosa man, 21, charged in accidental shooting of his teen brother
TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- A 21-year-old man has been charged in connection with the accidental shooting of his brother in Tuscaloosa earlier this month, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office said.
According to Sgt. Dale Phillips, Jalen Burns was handling a firearm in a "reckless manor" when the gun discharged, hitting his 16-year-old brother in the abdomen on July 15. Burns, who originally told investigators that his brother accidentally shot himself, was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree domestic violence assault. He is currently being held in the county jail on a $10,000 bond.
The teen shooting victim was rushed to DCH Regional Medical Center by Burns after the shooting and later taken to Children's of Alabama in Birmingham for further treatment.
