Tuscaloosa man, caregiver charged with murder of his elderly mother

Davis Langley Marshall, 56, is charged with the death of his 87-year-old mother. He is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $100,000 bond.

The Northport Police Department has announced the arrest of a Tuscaloosa man who served as his 87-year-old mother's caregiver and charged him with murder.

Davis Langley Marshall, 56, has been indicted by a Tuscaloosa County grand jury on charges of homicide, manslaughter, abuse and neglect and exploitation of assets after a year-long investigation.

On September 28, 2011, Northport police and fire units responded to a medical call at the 500 block of Main Avenue where they found the elderly woman in serious medical condition.{} Northport's Criminal Investigation Division was also called to the scene to investigate elderly abuse and neglect while the woman was transported by ambulance to Druid City Hospital.{} She passed away 10 days later on October 8.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the mother had been living with her son, who was also serving as her caregiver, and that she was not receiving appropriate physical care.{} Investigators also discovered that her financial assets had been misappropriated while under her son's care.

With the assistance of Tuscaloosa County Homicide, authorities presented their case against the son Marshall to a grand jury before they subsequently saw him fit to face the aforementioned charges.

Marshall was arrested at his home Friday at 2:20 p.m. and taken to Tuscaloosa County Jail where he is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
