A Tuscaloosa man has been charged in connection with a fatal stabbing early Saturday morning, police said.

Frederick Lavelle Sledge, 39, is charged with murder for the death of his younger brother -- 37-year-old Kenneth Darnell Sledge -- who was found lying in the 4700 block of 5th Avenue East around 1 a.m., suffering from a stab wound to the chest. He was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center, where later died.

The elder Sledge was also taken to the hospital to be treated for a cut to his back before being released and booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where he is being held on a $75,000 bond.

Authorities are still trying to determine a motive in the killing. An investigation remains ongoing.
