Tuscaloosa man murdered New Year's Eve after argument
TUSCALOOSA COUNTY - AL —
A man was shot and killed New Year's Eve night in Tuscaloosa County.
According to the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office, Lake View Police and Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the 20100 block of Highway 216 in response to a shooting just after 10:00 p.m. Upon arrival, they found 39-year-old George Boyd on the living room floor with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead. The suspect, Jason Lane Johnson, 41, was not located at the scene.
Witnesses told police that Johnson and Boyd had gotten into an argument. Johnson then walked into the bedroom, returned with a gun, and shot the victim in the chest. He fled the scene. Police say the argument appears to have started over a female who was at the scene.
Patrol officers located Johnson in the Lake View area. He was transported and booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail for murder on a $75,000 bond.
This was the 16th murder of 2012 for the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit.
