Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox running for re-election

Mayor Walt Maddox is seeking a third term.

Maddox announced his bid for re-election on his website and social media Thursday morning.{}

He was first elected as mayor in 2005 at the age of 32.

He used an unconventional way of announcing his re-election. He posted video on his website and announced his re-election through Facebook and Twitter. "More and more people are relying on social media so I thought it would be a great way to engage the citizens this way to announce my re-election campaign opposed to a traditional press conference which typically excludes the general public. This way we were able to engage directly with residents. Instead of us talking at people, we are engaged in a dialogue," Maddox said.

According to a spokesperson, Tuscaloosa has seen a boost in its economy , having one of{} the lowest rates in the state{} and has seen the addition of more than 1,000 jobs at the Mercedes plant.

We will have more on his re-election plans coming up tonight at 4 p.m.
