Updated: Names released in Tuscaloosa double murder, suicide

Update: The victims have been identified as 51 year old Melanie Neal Powell and 53 year old Ronald Larry Hydrick. The suspect has been identified as 52 year old Taylor McLaurin Powell.

Three people are dead after an apparent double murder, suicide in Tuscaloosa County.

Early Sunday morning, Tuscaloosa Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the area of 15282 Sylvan Loop Road in Fosters. Once there, deputies found a 52-year-old white male with a single gunshot wound to his head. Deputies believe this man was the suspect.

Deputies also found a white Ford F-150 pickup truck down an embankment, about 50 feet from the location of the white male. Inside the truck were a 52-year-old white male and a 51-year-old white female. Both were deceased.

Investigators believe this to be a domestic situation, according to the Tuscaloosa Sheriff's Office.

Investigators believe the suspect confronted his wife and her companion at the companion's house. After that, the suspect began to chase them with his vehicle. Investigators believe the suspect's vehicle struck the victim's vehicle and continued to chase them until he ran them off the roadway, down into a ditch. Investigators say it is possible the suspect was shooting at the victim's vehicle during the chase.

After realizing both victims were dead, investigators say the suspect then shot himself in the head, killing himself.

The names of the people involved have not yet been released, pending notification of family members. Investigators say the deceased suspect is a former Tuscaloosa County Deputy Sheriff that was with the department until 1997.
