Two Women Authors to be Inducted into Women's Hall of Fame

Two women authors will be inducted into the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame on March 7th at the Alumnae Auditorium at Judson College.

Hall officials announced the selections of Zora Neale Hurston and Frances Cabaniss Roberts.{}{} {}Hurston was unsuccessful as a writer while living.{} But Alice Walker, best known as the author of "The Color Purple" helped to popularize Hurston's writings.{} They are now taught in English and African-American studies departments around the country.{}{} {}Roberts focused on historical research and preservation.{} She write textbooks that were used in history and civics classes throughout the state.{} She was also a founding member of the University of Alabama in Huntsville.{} She received the Alabama Award of Merit in 1978.{}{}
