Crews rescue two cell phone tower construction workers in Montgomery Co.

HOPE HULL, Ala. (AP) - Rescue crews have successfully pulled two men to safety after they became trapped under dirt at a central Alabama construction site.

The workers were in rebar cages installing concrete fillings at a future cell phone tower when the hole they were digging collapsed around them Wednesday. The construction site was in Hope Hull - about 10 miles south of Montgomery.

1 of the workers' feet became trapped under two feet of dirt and the other worker became trapped under four feet of dirt. Assistant Fire Chief Kelly Gordon says it's unclear what led to the hole partially caving in.

The workers were airlifted to a local hospital and Gordon says their injuries were not life threatening.
