Wife of Gardendale minister dies from injuries sustained in shooting

The coroner's office has confirmed that Lisa Greer has passed away as a result of her injuries in this incident.



Sources familiar with the situation say the shooting and stabbing incident occurred at the home of Dr. Terry Greer, a Senior Pastor at Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.

Greer, who has been a minister for over 30 years, is married to Lisa Eidson Greer and they have one daughter named Suzanna Faith Greer.

Dr. Greer began working at the church in June of 2012.

The church released a statement regarding the incident on their Facebook page informing members of counseling that will be made available on Friday:

"This afternoon your church staff has watched and listened as stories have appeared in local media and word has spread around the community regarding the tragedy involving Pastor Terry Greer and his family. The Bishop and the Conference are being proactive in helping us as a church to cope with this tragedy. Tomorrow, Rev. Sherry Ferguson,a licensed counselor with United Counseling will be available from 8am- noon and 1-4pm, to meet with anyone who needs to speak with her about this tragedy in our Faith community. Check-in at the church office and we can direct you to her location. Please be in prayer for the Greer family and our church."

"The Rev. Dr. Terry L. Greer is a native of Elizabethton, Tennessee, and served in the United States Army for nine years. His last military assignment was on the staff of the Deputy Commanding General at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. He remains a member of the Redstone Arsenal Chapter of The Association of The Association of the United States Army. He is a graduate of Northeast State College in Powell, Alabama where he completed his Associate of Arts Degree. He then enrolled in Athens State University, Athens, Alabama where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion with a focus on New Testament studies. He earned the Master of Divinity Degree from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia and the Doctor of Ministry Degree from The Theological School of Drew University, Madison, New Jersey."

"Terry's wife (pictured left), the former Lisa Eidson of Scottsboro, is a Birmingham-Southern graduate with a degree in elementary education. She retired after twenty-seven years of public school service in August 2009.

Terry and his family love people and love serving others through their service in The United Methodist Church."


Police are investigating a shooting of two females and the stabbing of one male in Gardendale.

Two females were transported to UAB Hospital suffering from gunshot wounds, and one male has been hospitalized after being stabbed at a residence located at the 5800 Block of Country Meadow Drive near Mt. Olive Road. Two of the victims are in critical condition, and the other is in stable condition, Gardendale Police Chief Mike Walker confirmed.

It is unknown at this time who shot and stabbed the victims, but Gardendale Police do have a suspect in custody.

Chief Walker said police responded to the home around 2:30 p.m. today and evidence technicians are currently conducting an investigation.
