Two local schools awarded green ribbons

The U.S. Secretary of Education has named Homewood Middle School and Brock's Gap Intermediate in Hoover Green Ribbon Schools. They were recognized for efforts to lessen their carbon footprint and promote better health.Homewood Middle and Brock's Gap were among 48 schools nationwide to receive the honor of receiving the green ribbon designation. The schools were evaluated based upon action taken to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, promote health, and provide environmental education about green careers.The schools were nominated by local state education agencies.{}
