UAB has new president


Birmingham native, Dr. Ray Watts, has been selected the be the new president of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The Board of Trustees of the University of Alabama system acted on the recommendation of Chancellor Dr. Robert Witt.

Dr. Watts is the dean of the school of medicine at UAB. The 59 year old is a graduate of West End High School and received his BS degree from UAB.

Dr. Watts replaces interim president Dr. Richard Marchese who took over after the resignation of Dr. Carol Garrison. Dr. Garrison resigned in August, 2012.

UAB is the largest employer in the state of Alabama.
