UAB holds white coat ceremony

{} {} Sunday was{}a huge day for nearly two-hundred of America's future doctors. {}UAB{}held its white coat ceremony.

{} {} It's a symbolic gesture as students enter their first year of medical school. {}The ceremony was created in 2003, and UAB{}has been holding the ceremonies for its new students since 2006.

{} {} The ceremony is more than just a way to hand out a uniform to students. {}That's because the white coat itself is symbolic. {}Assistant Dean Dr. Steven Smith says, "It's a gift of the Medical Alumni Association. {}It's a symbol of their service as physicians to their patients. {}The white coat has become somewhat ubiquitous in medical clinics."
