UAB President Carol Garrison to step down

Carol Garrison stepping down as UAB President

{} {} UAB President Carol Garrison now says she will step down from her post. {}Garrison has been UAB President for ten years. {}She will continue to serve until an interim president is named. Garrison says she's ready to begin a new phase of her life, after leading the school through construction of new facilities, and a big increase in fundraising. {}Also under Garrison's watch, the school has had record enrollment over the last three years.

{} {} Garrison was named President in July 2002. {}Her first full-time job was at UAB Hospital, after she graduated from the school.

{} {} UA system Chancellor Robert WItt praised Garrison for her service: "The increase in sponsored research, expansion of the physical campus, improved national rankings, growth in overall enrollment and historic success in fundraising have set new benchmarks of excellence. {}Carol Garrison has served her alma mater well, and we appreciate her contributions to UAB, our System and the state."{}

{} {} While Garrison was President, she also served as President of Operation New Birmingham, and the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce.
