BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB football team completed its second week of spring drills on Saturday as the squad moved to Legion Field for a two-hour morning workout.
"It was really fun to be out here today," head coach Garrick McGee said. "We had a lot of excitement from the guys on the field."
The Blazers went through their normal scripted workout to begin Saturday's action, before a near 30-minute scrimmage to conclude the day. McGee says he likes what he has seen from his team throughout the last two weeks.
"I can see that our offseason conditioning program is working for them," McGee added. "We are a lot faster, a lot bigger, and they have a lot more confidence in themselves because of the preparation and work they have put in. It is still ongoing, but I feel they are more committed and have a different chemistry with one another."
McGee also announced several position changes on Saturday. Sophomore Jake Ganus has moved from safety to linebacker, while redshirt freshman Steve Pickren, who had seen time at defensive end, has moved back to tight end. Among other changes, sophomore cornerback Vashon Landers has seen time at safety, Chris Rabb, who was moved to linebacker after last season, has moved to the defensive end spot where he played last year as a true freshman and senior Cortez Webb has moved from safety to cornerback
"That is what spring is about - evaluating and making sure you put the right pieces together," McGee said.
UAB will return to the practice fields on Wednesday, building up to the April 27 Spring Game.
