UMC installs first female bishop

The North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church welcomed its first female bishop. Debra Wallace-Padgett was installed during a Sunday service at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook.

Wallace-Padgett was elected bishop in July.

She comes from a Lexington, Kentucky church where she served as the lead pastor. During her eight years there, the church experienced growth in membership and attendance and even added a multicultural service.

The bishop plans on spending the next few months getting to know the Conference and the clergy.
