UMS-Wright upsets Oneonta to claim 4A state championship

      The UMS-Wright Bulldogs upset the top-ranked Oneonta Redskins 42-14 to claim the AHSAA Class 4A State Championship at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Friday.

      UMS-Wright head coach Terry Curtis won his fifth career state title behind his star running back Troy Dixon, who rushed for 232 yards and three touchdowns in the game. His defense also managed to force four turnovers in the win, including three interceptions of Oneonta's star quarterback Cody O'Toole.

      O'Toole is one of four finalists for the Friday Night Blitz Player of the Year award.

      Bulldogs' defensive lineman K.J. Traywick returned one of O'Toole's interceptions 19 yards for a touchdown. Check out the photos to the right of the play from beginning to end.

      Oneonta entered today's game with an unblemished 14-0 record, but the Redskins lost in the 4A state final for the second consecutive season.

      The Bulldogs' state championship victory gives them a final record of 13-2, with their only two losses coming to teams in 5A (McGill-Toolen, St. Paul's).
